We celebrated the one year anniversary of the Deaf Education Centre’s Seminar Series this month! We had many great presenters over the course of the year, and have some great seminars coming up that you won’t want to miss!
Our first presenter one year ago who visited in conjunction with the Centre for Deaf Studies was Dr. Gary Morgan who discussed Access and Contribution to the Classroom by Deaf Children. We also hosted a great team; Yvonne Mullan, Tish Balfe, and Brenda Egan who teaches at St Joseph’s School for Deaf Boys. They presented their research on using the Edmark Reading Intervention with Deaf children, and their research won an award in Sweden from the International Reading Association. Grainne Meehan presented her research on the Deaf Community’s Perspectives of Deaf Village Ireland, and finally we had Dr. Gill Harold who presented research on Deaf Perspectives of Sound and the City.
For our next two seminars we will be hosting Maggie Owens on March 12, and Professor Barbara Gerner De Garcia who will be visiting us from Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. on April 9th! Save the date and keep an eye out for more detailed information on these upcoming seminars over the coming weeks- it looks like it will be a busy year and we hope to see you all soon!
