INTERPRETER  TRAINING/QUALIFICATIONS
Agencies apply different criteria for interpreters in terms of training,
qualifications and accreditation/registration.

Our service would recommend booking an interpreter who is a graduate of Deaf
Studies/Sign Language Interpreting studies.  In addition, we strongly
support interpreters who have been independently accredited/ registered.  An
interpreter should also be committed to ongoing continuous professional
development and adhere to a Code of Ethics.

R1 accreditation/registration is the highest level of accreditation for a
hearing interpreter.  D1 is for a Deaf interpreter.  This allows
interpreters to do generic interpreting and specialised interpreting such as
legal or high level medical interpreting.

R2/ D2 accreditation/registration allows interpreters to do generic work but
not specialised interpreting.
