1916 EVENT IN BANNA BEACH WITH PRESIDENT HIGGINS

We would to extend a sincere thank you to the organisers of the 1916 Commemoration event in Banna Beach during the week.

An Irish Sign Language (ISL) interpreter was provided for members of the Deaf community. VIP seating was allocated to ensure sign language users had clear access to the interpreter. In addition, there was clear signage to inform people of the interpreter access.

The event was attended by the President of Ireland, Mr. Michael D. Higgins and by members of the Defence Forces, local TD’S, Senators including Senator Mark Daly from Co. Kerry who has been a strong supporter of ISL official recognition, and many other VIP’s.

The event was attended by over 4,000 people so it was fantastic for the local Deaf community to have access to the proceedings. Our sincere thanks to the organisers from across a number of Government Depts. & Kerry County Council. Our sincere thanks to Catherine White for interpreting the event. Lastly, sincere thanks to everyone from the Deaf community who attended on the day.
