Kerry Deaf Resource Centre Update 19.11.12
SUPPORTER OF THE YEAR AWARDS.
It’s that time of year again where we are looking for nominations for our
Deaf and hearing Supporter of the Year Awards.
Do you know of a person, organisation or a service that has been supportive
of Deaf issues in the past year. Has someone contributed to improving the
lives of Deaf people in Kerry? Has access improved in a particular service?
If so, send us their names and we will consider them for an award. The
successful people will be announced at our Christmas party and will be
presented with a framed certificate, a box of chocolates and a bottle of
wine. Get your nominations in now.
DECEMBER MONTHLY MASS IN SIGN LANGUAGE
Our monthly mass will also be held on the 9th of December from 1-2pm in
Stokers Lodge. Veronica White of the National Chaplaincy for Deaf People
will interpret the mass.
CHRISTMAS PARTY REMINDER.
Our annual party will be held on the 9th of December in Stokers Lodge in
Tralee. It will be on from 2-6 pm and promises to be a wonderful event. We
will have a 4-course meal, spot prizes and Santa. It will cost 20euro per
adult and 10euro per child. If you would like to attend, please send us your
names as soon as possible.
THANK YOU TO VOLUNTEER COLLECTORS
We would like to say a huge thank you to the volunteer fundraisers who
carried our Church Collections on our behalf over the weekend. The weather
was terrible over the weekend and we really appreciate everyone’s hard work.
In addition, we would like to thank the parishes of Castleisland, Cordal and
Scartaglen for their support.
CORKINTERPRETER.COM UPDATE
CorkInterpreter.com has recently produced a leaflet, which gives updates on
their work to date in Cork and the wider Munster area. CorkInterpreter.com
is an affiliation of sign language interpreters with a common goal – the
increased provision of access through interpretation in the Cork and wider
Munster area. Suzanne Carey from Co. Kerry is also an affiliate of the group
as she has now relocated to Cork.
The interpreters have a fantastic working relationship with each other and
are dedicated to both their own professional development and the development
of the profession. They work on a freelance basis and for reputable
interpreting agencies. They network with each other as a way to inform
themselves about best practice and developments in the area of sign language
interpreting. For those who receive this newsletter by email, the leaflet is
attached.
