LAUNCH  OF WOMEN’s  AID  WEBSITE  SIGN  LANGUAGE  TRANSLATIONS
Deaf and hard of hearing women are invited to attend the launch of the Irish
Sign Language (ISL) video translations of the services and information
provided on the Women’s Aid website.  This is a women’s only event and an
interpreter will be provided.  The launch will be held Saturday 24th January
2015 at 6 pm at Cabragh Hall, Deaf Village Ireland, Ratoath Road, Cabra,
Dublin 7.

Women’s Aid is a leading national organisation that has been working in
Ireland to stop domestic violence against women and children since 1974.

support, and provide hope to women affected by abuse and work for justice
and social change.
They provide a text service for Deaf or hard of hearing women.  If you need
to contact them, text 087 959 7980 between 10am to 10pm, 7 Days a week and
they will text you back. To see the ISL video translations on their website

INTRODUCTION  TO  LEARN  IRISH  SIGN  LANGUAGE (ISL)  WEBSITE
Are you interested in learning ISL? There is a new website that is aimed at
those interested in learning the basics of sign language.  The site can also
be used as a tool for those who are taking classes as an aid to classroom
learning.  The topics covered include the alphabet, numbers, colours, days
of the week, months, emotions, school, the house, hobbies, prepositions,
transport, basic phrases and the weather.  Learners can also test themselves
with short multiple-choice videos.  If you, or anyone you know is interested
in learning ISL, go to the following website:
www.learnirishsignlanguage.ie/index.html

IRISH  SIGN  LANGUAGE  SURVEY
The Irish Deaf Society are asking Deaf, hard of hearing (hoh), Children of
Deaf Adults (CODA) and the hearing community to complete an Irish Sign
Language survey.  They would like everyone who uses ISL to complete it. The
Irish Deaf Society would like to thank those people who have filled in the
survey.  However, if you are not sure, they recommend that you fill it in
again.

There are only six short questions. Please fill in all the boxes – do not
leave any blank!  The whole survey should only take two minutes to complete.
There is also a short video in ISL explaining the survey. You can see the
video and complete the survey by going to:
www.irishdeafsociety.ie/irish-sign-language/irish-sign-language-survey/

MEDLEY  OF  CHRISTMAS  SONGS  IN  IRISH  SIGN  LANGUAGE
Seeing it is drawing closer to Christmas, we thought we might put in a link
to a video of a group of Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) students and
staff trying their hands at Irish Sign Language – most for the first time!!

Although it was originally posted in December 2011, we thought it would
bring a bit of cheer to see them working their way through a medley of
Christmas songs.  They ask you to forgive them for any ISL mistakes you
might see, as many of them are beginners.  You can view them by going to
their Youtube link:
