SHARED READING PROGRAMME EXTENDED TO 4-8 YEAR OLDS.
The Deaf Education Centre is delighted to announce that they have received a
generous grant from The Ireland Funds to extend their Shared Reading
Programme to 8 year olds. There will be ten new books for the 4-8 years olds
filmed and added to their library over the coming months.

If you are the parent of a deaf child aged 4-8 years old and would like to
avail of the new reading programme, please send us your details and we will
ensure your child gets the books in due course.

CONGRATS TO ELIZABETH MATTHEWS (DEAF EDUCATION CENTRE).
We would like to extend our best wishes to Elizabeth Matthews who was
presented with a Teaching Hero Award at the recent National Forum for the
Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. The former
President of Ireland Mary Mc Aleese presented the award to Elizabeth.

IDYA UPCOMING EVENTS
The Irish Deaf Youth Association (IDYA) has a number of events this month.

AGM: The IDYA Annual General Meeting will be held on the 18th of October at
2.30pm.

NEW BOARD MEMBERS: The IDYA is hoping to recruit seven new Board members.
The positions are as follows: – Vice Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer &
four Board members. If you are interested in going forward for any of these
positions, you can show your interest at the AGM. Voting at the AGM is open
to all in attendance.

MYSTERY BUS TOUR: Following the AGM, there will be a 2-hour Mystery Tour,
which leaves DVI at 4.45pm. If you book your ticket in advance, it will cost
15euro or 20euro on the day. The tour will allow you experience the
theatrical horror and ghosts of Dublin’s past. Sign language interpreters
will be available on the day.

IDS INFORMATION ROADSHOW
Geraldine Broderick & Patrick Doody will present an Information Roadshow in
our Centre on the 8th of November at 2pm.

The information sessions are part of the Irish Deaf Society’s national
Roadshow series. The session will cover a wide range of issues that are of
interest to the Deaf community. Further information on the topics will be
available shortly on our Facebook page.

CALL FOR CONTRIBUTORS FROM DEAFBLIND WRITERS.
John Lee Clark, a literary scholar from the United States, is seeking any
writings by deaf-blind writers from the past and present. He is assembling
an international anthology that includes autobiographies, memoirs, essays,
fiction, poetry and other types of writing. If you know of any deaf-blind
writers or any books published by deaf-blind authors in any language, please

CODA UK & IRELAND FUNDRAISING DRIVE.
CODA International is a non-profit organisation for adult hearing sons &
daughters of Deaf parents. Their international conference “CODALAND” will be
held in the UK from the 16th-19th of July 2015.

The organising committee CODA UK & Ireland are now embarking on a major
fundraising campaign to raise £10,000 to provide financial aid to enable
CODAs from all around the globe attend the CODALAND Conference. The
fundraising activities can be anything from a sponsored swim-a-thon or a
Body Shop Party! Let your imagination run away with you! The organisers are
looking for your help to reach their target and have fun along the way!

If you are interested in applying for financial aid the deadline is January.

the organisers are keen to make this the best CODA event ever! For more
