Our Book and Gift Club is back again this month. If you would like to view
items before ordering, feel free to drop in to our Centre. Staff members here will order the products for you and will send you a text message, email or fax when they are ready for collection.

NATIONAL  CHAPLAINCY  FOR  DEAF  PEOPLE  UPDATE
John Patrick Doherty is the Lay Chaplain for the Deaf in Co. Kerry. He has
asked us to give you an update on a number of activities with the National
Chaplaincy for Deaf People (NCDP)

1) The Mass for the Deaf in Co. Kerry was cancelled at short notice. Fr.
Finucane was not available due a death of a family member. John Patrick
would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused due to the short
cancellation. As these masses are organised by John Patrick & the NCDP,
please pass on your contact details to him in the event of any changes or
cancellations in the future.
2) World Youth Day will be held in Krakow Poland in July 2016. The
Archdiocese of Dublin will lead a pilgrimage of Youth (16-18years old) and
Young Adults (18-28 years old). If you are interested, you can get more
information from NCDP.
3) A Pilgrimage to Lourdes for the Deaf community will also take place from
the 7th-12th of September. NCDP are also looking for volunteer helpers for
the trip.

DEAF  EDUCATION  CENTRE  SEMINAR  SERIES
Strategies for Deaf Learners with Autism will be presented by Dr. Raschelle
Theoharis on the 13th of May. It will be held in Cabragh Hall, Deaf Village
Ireland from 5:00-7:00pm (please note the change in time!)

English & Irish Sign Language Interpreting will be provided

Deaf and hard of hearing students with autism spectrum disorders have unique
learning characteristics and needs that present challenges in a variety of
settings for teachers, family members, and caregivers. This presentation
will address the specific characteristics and learning needs of deaf and
hard of hearing students with autism spectrum disorders with a communication
perspective and offer strategies and examples for dealing with a variety of
situations in different environments.

ST.  MARY’s  SCHOOL  FOR  DEAF  GIRLS  FAMILY  DAY  14TH  OF  MAY
As you may be aware St. Mary’s Director of Care Mary Kiernan is retiring at
the end of this year after 24 years at St Marys.

This Thursday May 14th they will hold a Family Fun Day to say farewell and
thanks to Mary for her years of dedication to the Girls. It will also give
them the opportunity to introduce the new Manager of St Mary’s Boarding.
There have been recent renovations at the Boarding and any prospective
boarders will get a chance to look around.

Kicking off at 4pm they will have a series of brief talks for Parents
focusing on:
·Anti-Bullying
·New Pharmacy Regulations (vital for Parents to attend as new regulations
come in this year).
·Introduction to their Nursing Team, Jeanette and Juliette.

There will also be a Petting Farm, Face Painting, Bouncy Castle, music and a
special surprise performance during the afternoon. A live Jazz Band will
perform whilst everyone tucks into a delicious BBQ from 5:30-8pm.
