AHEAD – COLLEGE FAIR FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES
AHEAD, the Association for Higher Education Access and Disability will be holding this year’s ‘Better Options’ college fair for students with disabilities and specific learning difficulties in the National College of Ireland, Mayor Square, IFSC, Dublin 1 on the 24th of November. It will run from 10 am to 1 pm. This event is for students looking to find out about courses and support services provided by 3rd level colleges as well as acquire key information on the access routes for those with disabilities. The event is free and registration is not required.
Most of the major colleges will be represented in the Exhibition hall and
seminars will run concurrently on the following topics:
Getting the most from your Disability Service.
Looking after your mental health in college.
College 101: surviving freshman year.

CAO INFORMATION FOR LEAVING CERT STUDENTS
For Deaf or hard of hearing students unable to make the Better Options
college fair in Dublin, DeafHear.ie have an article for those doing their
Leaving Certificate this year and hoping to get a place in 3rd Level
education in September 2015. It explains about the application process
through the Central Applications Office (CAO) for undergraduate courses in
colleges and universities, about identifying the courses that you are
interested in, and if you are a Deaf or hard of hearing student, what
additional supports you might need to get through that course in college.

ABBEY THEATRE: FOLLOW
The WillFred Theatre’s multi-award winning debut production FOLLOW, which
explores stories from the Irish Deaf Community, will be performed at the
Abbey Theatre this autumn.
FOLLOW features Shane’s whose parents are Deaf. He grew up in a house with
doorbell lights and subtitles on the TV. A house where to be heard, you had
to be seen.
Using sound, light, Irish Sign Language and performance in a unique and
playful way, FOLLOW is a one-man show that captivates from start to finish.
Co-created with Jack Cawley and Shane O’Reilly. Winner of Spirit of the
Fringe, Dublin Fringe Festival 2011. FOLLOW is fully accessible for a Deaf
and Hard of hearing audience.
It will be performed at the Abbey Theatre from 27 November – 6 December on
the Peacock stage. The performance times are Mon – Sat 8pm, Sat matinee
2.30pm. FOLLOW is performed in Irish Sign Language and is also captioned.
Tickets are 13euro for members of the Deaf community to any show.

CHRISTMAS PARTY
Our annual Christmas party will take place on Sunday 14th of December in
Stokers Lodge in Tralee (near Tralee Train Station). The party will be held
from 2 to 6pm. It will cost 20euro per adult and 10euro per child. Santa
will come for a short visit during the party and we will also have spot
prizes.

3rd of December.
DECEMBER MASS FOR THE DEAF
Our December mass will be celebrated on the 14th of December at 1pm in
Stokers Lodge.
SUPPORTER OF THE YEAR AWARDS.
Nominations for our Deaf and hearing Supporter of the Year Awards are now
being accepted. Do you know of a person, organisation or a service that has
been supportive of Deaf issues in the past year? If so, send us their names
and we will consider them for an award. The successful people will be
announced at our Christmas party and will be presented with a framed
certificate, a box of chocolates and a bottle of wine.
