STREET COLLECTION- VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED.
We will hold a fundraising Street Collection in Castleisland on the 14th of
September. Volunteers are required from 9am-6pm. If you are available, let
us know what time you are available and we will allocate a time slot to you.

ISL COMMUNICATION WORKER VACANCY IN TRALEE.
The Kerry Education Service wishes to recruit an Irish Sign Language
Communication Support Worker. The role of the person will be to facilitate
communication between deaf adult learners, hearing tutors and hearing adult
learners.  This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is proficient in
ISL to work as part of an innovative team at the KES Assistive Technology
VTOS programme.

The following are essential criteria- fluent ISL, spoken English and good
written English. Knowledge of the Irish Deaf Community and culture. Ability
to work as part of a team.

In addition, the following criteria are desirable- Qualification in Irish
Sign Language. Computer Literacy. Knowledge and understanding of adult
education. Experience of working with adults who may have a range of
disabilities. Teaching qualification an advantage.

INTERPRETER REQUIRED FOR TRALEE COMMUNITY COLLEGE.
The Tralee Community College is hoping to recruit a Sign Language
Interpreter for a full time course starting next week. The interpreter would
be required full day Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Our service
circulated an ‘expression of interest’ for this position in May- this was
followed up by circulars from interpreting agencies recently.

contact details for the relevant section in the Tralee Community College.

FUNDRAISER FOR ETHIOPIA DEAF PROJECT.
Miriam O’ Regan is organising a Christmas Charity Fair in November with
proceeds going to the Ethiopia Deaf Project in Ambo. She has set up a
blogspot at

Over the coming weeks, more information will be posted on the event
including how you can book a stand on day. The Fair is being extended this
year and a Bazaar will be held in another room in the Centre.  If people
have any household items, candles, pictures, mirrors, jewellery, glass,
toys, Aldi/lidl must haves that you no longer want, unwanted gifts, books,
games, etc, Miriam and the organisers would be delighted to take them off
your hands.  However, no clothes will be accepted and items must be in good
condition.

Please support this worthy cause- all money donated will go directly to the
building of a Deaf Centre/ Education Centre in Ethiopia. The final stages of
construction are coming to and end shortly. Our thanks to everyone who has
supported this initiative to date.

IRISH SIGN LANGUAGE (ISL) CLASSES- LEVEL 1.
ISL Level 1 classes will be starting on the 3rd of October in out Centre.
The duration of the course will be 30 weeks spilt over 3 terms and will run
from 7pm-9pm

The cost of the course is 200euro (to be paid on 1st night). In addition, if
students want to sit exams and gain Level 1 certification – an additional
fee of 100euro approx will apply. Payment taken prior to each exam (Unit
101,102 and 103 exams)

The classes will be organised by a freelance tutor and independently of our
service. Please note the course will run dependant upon demand (approx 8-10
students).

The Council of Irish Sign Language Interpreters website is now live and has
information on CISLI, its Aims and Objectives, Constitution and the Code of
Ethics which members of CISLI adhere to. Interpreters can also download a
membership form.
