KIDS OF DEAF ADULTS (KODA) SURVEY
Since appearing on CBBC “My Life: Signing Off”, CODA UK & Ireland have had lots of Deaf parents contacting them about KODA (Kids of Deaf Adults) workshops. They have decided to do a survey to see where they need to set-up KODA workshops across the UK and Ireland. This information will be kept confidential and only used for research purposes. CODA UK & IRELAND 5 YEAR PLAN INPUT
CODA UK & Ireland would like to know what you would want to see them doing
in the future now that they are working toward their 2015 five year
strategic plan. If you want to send them your views and ideas or to get
involved, email: [email protected]. A Board Meeting will take place
on the 13th December 2014 where they aim to put together this 5-year plan.

CODA UK & Ireland already do an annual KODA Camp for 7-17yr olds every year
and monthly workshops, bi-annual CODA conferences for over 18s open to
everyone and respond to daily enquiries that come in from a variety of
people in various situations. They also network with international CODA
organisations and offer support outside of the UK and Ireland.

CODA – HEARING ADULTS & CHILDREN OF DEAF PARENTS STUDY
Clare Tirot has been studying French sign language for three years and last
year spent an Erasmus year in Dublin. She is presently studying for a
Masters degree in French linguistics in France. As part of her studies, she
is keen to hear from hearing adults & children who have Deaf parents.

EMERGENCY TEXT SERVICE “112”
Just a reminder, as we head towards the Christmas season, of the free 112
SMS Emergency Service for Deaf and hard of hearing in Ireland.
If you have an emergency and need to contact An Garda Siochána, the
Ambulance service, the Fire service, or the Irish Coastguard, you can send a
text to an ECAS operator and they will forward on the information to the
required emergency service. You can find out more about it on the link:

You MUST register with this service before you can use it. Do not leave it
until an emergency has happened. It is important you provide information
such as your location in your text message.

E-mobile, Meteor, Three, O2 and Vodafone participate in this service. The
remaining mobile phone communication companies are hoping to join the
service shortly.

If your child’s school covers the use of 999 calls on their curriculum, ask
them to include material on the 112-text service as well. There is
information about teaching children how to use the emergency services on
this website also, and there is some information available in Irish Sign
Language (ISL).

ITV SIGNPOST FREELANCE ON-SCREEN PRESENTERS
Just a reminder that ITV SignPost is looking for freelance on-screen
presenters to work with their award-winning and highly skilled team based in
Gateshead, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Presenters of all ages are required to be
either fluent in Irish Sign Language (ISL) as their first language or have a
recognised university interpreting and translating degree qualification.

You should also have skills in telling children’s stories in sign language,
experience in translating information for TV, websites or DVDs, a background
in acting or drama, enthusiasm and commitment to produce high quality sign
language translations and are able to work under pressure to tight delivery
deadlines.
