WOMEN’s  AID  INFORMATION  IN  SIGN  LANGUAGE
Women’s Aid, in conjunction with the Irish Deaf Women’s Group, have launched
a series of Irish Sign Language (ISL) videos which feature all of the
information that is available on their website and a link to a text service
for deaf or hard of hearing women.

They have also launched wallet-sized cards promoting their text service for
Deaf or hard of hearing women. You can text them on 087 959 7980 between
10am to 10pm, 7 days a week and they will text you back.  All texts are
treated in strictest confidence and they can arrange an interpreter with
whom you feel comfortable with or arrange one through the Irish Deaf
Society.

For information about the text service and to see a Hands On report about
domestic abuse on Deaf and hard of hearing women in Ireland go to:

CONGRATULATIONS TO IRISH DEAF CHANNEL SWIMMERS.
We would like to extend our best wishes and congratulations to all the Irish
Deaf Channel Swimmers including Bernadette White and Nora Duggan from Co.
Kerry. The group have been fundraising for the past 18 months and the grand
total was announced at a huge BBQ in Deaf Village Ireland over the weekend.

In total, the swimmers and their supporters raised a massive 29,214euro for
the Irish Deaf Women’s Group & St. Mary’s Heritage Group. This is a
fantastic achievement. Well done to everyone.

BOGUS  STREET  COLLECTORS.
The Irish Deaf Society (IDS) have been informed that there are bogus street
collectors pretending to be collecting money for the IDS. The last known
sighting of these collectors was in Cork & Galway. The IDS has issued a
statement confirming they have no street collections anywhere in Ireland.

If you are not sure if a collection is legitimate or not, contact the
organisation concerned. If it is a bogus collection, they in turn can
contact the Gardaí.

NEW  PHONE  FOR  HARD  OF  HEARING/ WITH  HEARING  LOSS
For some of our hard of hearing clients who are looking to purchase an
amplified telephone.  We have just come across the “General Electric
Amplified Corded Phone” in Woodies and it retails for 24.99euro.

The phone has audio boost up to 40 decibels (db).  It has an extra loud
ringer up to 90db.  It has a small visual alert which flashes to notify you
that someone is ringing.  If the phone is nearby, it comes with a vibrating
alert pad, which can be placed beside you while watching TV or under the
pillow in your bedroom.  If you have an amplified neckloop, you can also
connect it to the phone.
