BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
We have a few birthday celebrations coming up this week and we’ve been asked
to wish the following a very Happy Birthday.
Susan O’ Callaghan from Cork Deaf Association, a long time Deaf supporter of
our service. Mike Callanan, a great hearing supporter of ours. Lastly, to
Richard Tolan who celebrates his 80th on the 9th of April.
MONTHLY MASS IN SIGN LANGUAGE
Our next monthly mass will be held on the 10th of April. As always, Veronica
White from the National Chaplaincy for the Deaf will interpret the mass. Tea
and coffee will be served afterwards.
If you require transport to this event, please contact us as soon as
possible so we can make the necessary taxi arrangements. The mass will be
held in St. John’s Pastoral Centre, Tralee.
APA AWARDS NIGHT
The Health and Leisure Department of the Inst. of Technology Tralee will
host an awards evening for its APA programme on the 13th of April. We have
been invited to this event. If you participated in any of the Outdoor
activities with us from Sept to Dec, you are welcome to join us on the
night.
The event will be held in the Meadowlands Hotel from 6pm onwards.
The awards acknowledge the support of the college, the work of the students,
and the achievements of the participants. There will be a few speeches,
awards presentation, refreshments and dancing. Please let us know if you are
interested in attending.
TWO MUSICAL JOURNEYS- A DEAFBLIND PERSPECTIVE
Russ Palmer, a Deafblind performer and music therapist along with Orla O’
Sullivan, a Deafblind teacher and performer will perform and share their
experiences in overcoming disability to develop careers in music.
This is part of the Life Long Learning Festival and will be held in the
Central Library, Grand Parade, Cork City on the 13th of April at 11am.
Russ will perform using voice & guitar. While Orla will perform on piano.
Juha Sarkkola will also join them on guitar.
Orla, Russ and Juha will also perform on Wed. 13th April at The Slate,
Tuckey St. (open mic session) at 9pm, and on Thurs 14th April in the Beer
Garden, Turner’s Cross 9.30pm (Finger Food Served)
CODA BERLIN
The international conference for CODA- Children of Deaf Adults will be held
in Berlin this year. The event will be held from July 28 – July 31.
Information on the conference, hotel, and registration deadlines are
available online.
In addition, there will be pre and post conference activities for those
travelling to the event. The website has information in German and English.

IUK CAMP AUGUST 2011
The Ireland/UK Deaf Youth Camp is back again after a two year break. The
Irish Deaf Youth Assoc (IDYA) has partnered with the British Deaf
Association. Ireland will host the 1st part of the camp in Galway for four
nights and in Dublin for three nights.
It will be a fun filled week for all 13-17 year olds. Eight participants
will be picked from each country (Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland
and England). Participants have only to pay 60euro. This covers
accommodation and includes all activities.
The IDYA are looking for participants for the camp, which will take place
from the 6th to the 13th of August 2011. The deadline for applications is
the 29th of April 2011.
Leaders are also needed for the camp- you have to be over 18 years old to
apply and the deadline is the 15th of April 2011.
