VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED FOR STREET COLLECTIONS.
As part of our fundraising drive- we require volunteers for our upcoming
street collections. The next collections will be held on the:
7th of May – Tralee.
15th of July – Killarney.
11th of September – Listowel.
Unfortunately, we are only part funded by Government sources and this does
cover all our running costs. Therefore, we heavily reliant on fundraising
events to meet the overheads of running a full time service in Kerry. We are
very grateful to all those who have assisted in the past. We would really
appreciate your support with our upcoming collections.
PUBLIC INVITED TO SHAPE HSE
The Health Service Executive is seeking the input from people for the
development of a service user Charter for the health services. Key areas
include access, safety, communication and privacy. The group describes the
venture as an opportunity to have your views heard and to define what
service users can expect from the HSE, and what the HSE can expect from
service users.
The consultation document has been developed by the DoHC and the HSE and
aims to inform and empower individuals, families and communities to actively
look after their own health and to influence quality healthcare in Ireland.
Questions are detailed on page 20-21 of the consultation document. The
deadline for receipt of submissions is Friday the 21st May 2010. For more

POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH QUESTIONNAIRE
Adebanke Aina is a postgraduate (Master’s) degree student of Community
Development at the school of Political Science & Sociology, NUI Galway. She
is conducting a research on the factors that influence the level of
participation of Deaf and hard of hearing people in the development of their
local community. The purpose of the research is to highlight some of the
factors that might prevent Deaf and hard of hearing people from
participating in issues that might affect them within their large community
as well as improving on their participation in decision making and
implementation of policies in this regard.
It is hoped that the result of the research would help to create a
benchmarking model of the range of participatory approach by community
development programs that would encourage stakeholders to participate in
activities that would facilitate the development of their community as well
as inform service providers of the best methods of engaging with the
stakeholders.
The questionnaires are confidential and available from our service. If you

NATIONAL GALLERY OF IRELAND TOUR
The National Gallery continues to provide Gallery tours in sign language.
The latest tour is on the 6th of May at 6.30pm starting in the Shaw Room. If

PRESENTERS FOR NEWS FOR THE DEAF ON RTÉ
Presenters are required to translate the News for the Deaf through Irish
Sign Language. The successful candidates must have good clear signing.
Ability to translate English into Irish Sign Language. Good television
presence and appearance. Be reliable. Flexibility in terms of their
availability – i.e. must be available to work in late afternoon and at
weekends.
The suitable candidates will be selected by audition. Closing date for
applications is the 30th of May. Auditions will be held in early June. RTE
would welcome expressions of interest from the Deaf and hard of hearing
community. Training will be given to the suitable candidates. Applications
