THANK YOU TO CHURCH COLLECTIONS.
We would like to extend a warm thank you to the following Parishes who
allowed us to fundraise outside their churches over the past few months:
Lyracompane, Knocknagoshel, Castleisland, Ballyhar, Firies, Cordal & Currow.
We would also like to sincerely thank all the parishioners for the
generosity and for all the volunteers who collected for us. We appreciate
all their support.
THANK YOU TO BISHOPSTWON COMMUNITY SCHOOL.
We would like to thank the Principal of Bishopstown Community School for
inviting our Manager Willie White to their school during the week. A special
word of thanks also to two of their teachers Deirdre Herlihy & Denise
Dowling who gave a very warm welcome and provided detailed information on
the school ethos and activities with their Deaf & hard of hearing students.
Willie also got the chance to meet many of their student during his visit.

THANK YOU TO UCC.
We would also like to thank the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences in
UCC for inviting Willie White to give a talk to students of their Department
during the week. The talk covered sign language interpreting, principles of
communication, communication supports and assistive technology for Deaf &
hard of hearing.
The talk was attended by ENT’s who work with Deaf and hard of hearing and we
hope the information will be of benefit to them in their work going forward.
INTERPRETING TRAINING FOR PALLIATIVE CARE.
Una MacConville is looking into the experiences of Deaf people and
interpreters in primary care & palliative care. She has informed us via
Suzanne Carey of an online training curriculum to prepare interpreters to
work in palliative care settings.
For interpreters, conversations involving palliative care, especially those
at the end of life, can be among the most difficult to convey — not only
linguistically and culturally, but personally. Yet to date, there has been
little training for interpreters in this field.
This seven-hour workshop curriculum is free and can be downloaded. Note that
the curriculum was designed for health care interpreter trainers to use in
preparing experienced medical interpreters to work in palliative care
settings.

ISL 4 ALL.
Isl4all is a campaign to raise and promote awareness of Irish Sign Language.
A place to meet, exchange views and swap stories. A platform to build
towards the ultimate goal of having Irish Sign Language recognised as an
official language of Ireland.
The administrators have a few things up their sleeves for the coming weeks
including competitions, news from how ISL is being debated in the Seanad
along with funny videos and pictures of what they’ve been up to recently.
They want to start things off with getting as many people to learn one
single phrase of Irish Sign Language. To join Isl4all, go to
