Ethiopia DeafProject News

Ethiopia DeafProjectEthiopia DeafProject: Tonight marks the 2nd Anniversary of the opening of the Ambo Deaf School: thanks so much for all your generosity and support. Its been another very successful year for the students who achieved very good results in their State exams.

Lots of other things have happened as a consequence of the school opening:
Sign Language Classes have begun.
Issues of Child Safeguarding have been addressed.
The Ambo Deaf Association has been renewed and there are now unto 80 registered participants.
We have a new teacher in the school, Ashenafi is a local man recently qualified from Addis Ababa University and is himself also Deaf.
A Traditional Shelter for meeting and socialising was built in the grounds was built with the aid of the Charity Shop in Clonakilty Cork.

In 2015 we hope to build another classroom and a laboratory to facilitate the transition of students in to Grade 8.
We will continue to explore the possibility of bringing the younger Deaf children to the school with the assistance of the local government and the issue of Vocational Training is still on our agenda.

Challenges: The National Government gave a 44% pay rise to all public servants including teachers which has created a bit of challenge to us with regards the budget for the school. However we will continue to do our best to ensure the school continues to progress and offers a quality education to all the students who attend.

Thanks again for LIKING our page, for following our progress, your interest and your generosity is a huge factor in encouraging us to continue in our efforts in “Helping Dreams Take Flight”.
Best wishes to you all for 2015.
