STARBUCKS OPENS ITS FIRST STORE WITH DEAF BARISTAS
Every so often, we like to bring you Deaf news from across the world. This time, it’s from Starbucks who recently opened its first store with Deaf baristas in the Bangsar district in Malaysia. From now on, coffee will be ordered in sign language. It is the first time the company has opened a store like this in the world.
If customers do not know sign language or basic gestures, employees can receive written orders. Each client is then assigned a number that flashes on a screen when their drink is ready.
Starbucks collaborated with the National Society of Interpreters for the Deaf to hire and train this unique team. A video with English subtitles can be seen at the following: https://www.facebook.com/StarbucksMalaysia/videos/vb.296802010332/10157130854835333/?type=2&theater
