Kerry Deaf Resource Centre Update 22.10.12

UPDATE ON ETHIOPIA DEAF PROJECT.
We have just been informed by Stephen Monaghan of significant developments
in the Ireland/Ambo Deaf project in Ethiopia. The building of the Deaf
school is in the final stages. As it is now rainy season, it will be another
few weeks before this is completed.

Next door to the proposed school is the Mogor College. The owners have
agreed to sell the property and 5 building to the Vincentians for the
expansion of the Deaf Centre/school. The purchase of the College and land
has been funded by the Ethiopian Deaf Fund in Ireland and a long-term loan
from the Vincentian Province in Ethiopia.

Stephen says “the College offers us a ready made facility for the immediate
development of Phase 2 & 3 and of the Deaf Centre and a great deal of
potential for further developments down the road. It was pure providence
that this land came on the market at this time and it was only thanks to the
efforts of so many people who have fundraised for the project that we were
in a position to make an offer. The title to the land will be transferred to
the Vincentians after negotiations with the local government, who are fully
supportive of the Deaf project. Thanks to all who have contributed to the
Ambo Deaf Project and made this possible. However, the work goes on and the
need for funds to support the new development is essential. Looking forward
to your continued support and interest”.
