CALI AWARD FOR OUR MANAGER WILLIE WHITE
We would like to extend our congratulations to our Manager Willie White for
winning a CALI Award for his work with the Deaf community & the Ethiopian
Deaf Project (EDP). CALI stands for Community, Action, Leadership &
Inspiration and is awarded by a group called FivePointFive.
Our sincere thanks to FivePointFive for recognising the work Willie has done
over the years and in particular his contribution to the development of a
Deaf school in Ambo Ethiopia. Willie shares the award with all those who
have supported him from the Deaf & hearing community and EDP.

BEST WISHES FOR TRIP TO ETHIOPIA.
We would like to send our best wishes to Veronica White, Steven White, and
our Manager Willie White who will be travelling to Ethiopia from the 28th
July to the 8th August. Susan O’Callaghan from Cork Deaf Association and
the three Canne sisters from America will also join them on the trip.
During their time in Ethiopia they will visit the Ambo Lazarist Deaf School,
which was established with support from the Deaf and hearing community in
Ireland. They will also provide a range of workshops and training to the
local Deaf community in Ambo.
DEAFHEAR SUMMER FAMILY FUN DAYS
Deafhear Killarney will be hosting a number of Family Fun Days over the
summer. These events will be an opportunity for children with hearing loss
and their parents and siblings to meet up with other families to get
together and have some fun. For all events you are advised to bring along a

RTÉ PLAYER SUBTITLE TESTING UPDATE
In last week’s newsletter we mentioned that RTÉ had invited Deaf
organisations to test the proposed subtitles for the RTÉ Player. On the
Irish Deaf Society’s Facebook page it now states that the subtitles will
only work on IOS players for the time being i.e. (iPad, iPhone and Apple).
RTÉ are hoping that PC and Android systems will be available soon &
hopefully before September. The subtitles are only at the testing stage and
the IDS would like your feedback by going to

RTÉ NEWS SEEK NEW PRESENTER FOR NEWS FOR THE DEAF
RTÉ News is looking for a new presenter for the News for the Deaf. For more

IRISH DEAF SOCIETY (IDS) 32ND ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING (AGM)
The IDS AGM will be held at 2 pm on Saturday the 9th August at the Deaf
Heritage Centre Hall, 2nd Floor Thomas Mahon Building, Deaf Village Ireland
(DVI), Ratoath Road, Cabra, Dublin 7. Interpreters will be provided. The
IDS is asking those who will be attending to bring their Annual Report and
Auditor’s Report 2013 to the meeting.
IRISH DEAF FILM FESTIVAL
Shamrock Deaf Films will present the 2nd Irish Deaf Film Festival at the
Lighthouse Cinema, Smithfield, Dublin from 10th–12th of October. Tickets
