UPCOMING DEAF EVENTS IN CORK.
In the past, young members from our service have been lucky to participate in Smiley Camp events, which are supported by Cork Deaf Assoc (CDA). The next event, which may interest our members, is an Easter Egg Hunt and a Coffee Morning. The Egg Hunt is open to Deaf, hard of hearing, and kids of Deaf parents (KODA’s).
A scrumptious selection of cakes will be on sale. There will also be a
raffle and spot prizes. Family and friends welcome! The event will run from
11am to 2pm on the 31st of March and the egg hunt kicks off at 11.30am. It
will be held in St. Columba’s GSN in Douglas, Cork with proceeds going to
the Smiley Summer Camp (details of which will be available in future
There will also be a Race Night fundraiser for the Cork Deaf Assoc on
Friday, the 13th of April. Racing starts at 8pm in Canty’s Bar in Pembroke
Horses are 5 euro each and Race Cards (ten lines/horses) are available to

CDA have been a fantastic supporter of our service, so show your support and
participate in these entertaining events.
IRISH DEAF SOCIETY (IDS) AGM.
The IDS has issued notice for its upcoming AGM, which will be held on the
21st of April. They are also looking for nominations for Treasurer and two
Board of Directors. If you would like to nominate someone, please send your
nomination by letter or email to IDS, 30 Blessington Street, Dublin 7 or
email: [email protected] by 30th March 2012. Two members of the IDS
must support your nomination.
If you would like to submit a motion for inclusion at the AGM, these must be
submitted in writing and signed by a proposer and seconder and addressed to
Chairperson at least 21 days before the AGM.
CENTRE FOR DEAF STUDIES (CDS) 10TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS.
CDS will be celebrating their 10th anniversary 2001-2011 with a Gala Ball on
Friday the 25th of May. The exciting event will be held in the Burlington
Hotel in Dublin. Tickets cost 55euro per person. For further information,

EUROPEAN STUDY- INTERVIEWING YOUNG ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES.
The School of Education in Trinity College would like to interview young
adults with disabilities as part of a European study investigating how
local, national, and global policies are influencing the lives of young
people in the 21st Century.
The Quali-TYDES Ireland researchers are conducting ‘life-story’ interviews
with young people NOW. If you have any type of disability and were born in
the 1980s, we would like to hear about your experiences, aspirations and
The team is keen to meet with Deaf and hard of hearing individuals and for
people living outside of Dublin also. These categories are under-represented
currently. They will provide a sign-language interpreter for the duration of
the interview, or can conduct the interview via email if this is the
preference of the participant.
The research will look at education, barriers/opportunities,
successes/problems, important decisions, regrets/dreams, who or what helped?
The researchers are willing to travel to you or will reimburse your travel
expenses if you travel to them.
