We would like to extend a sincere thank you to Listowel Church & its parishioners for supporting our Church Gate Collection at the weekend. A particular
word of thanks to our staff members Therese Gallant & Noreen Cronin who acted as collectors on the day.
The income generated from these collections contributes to overhead costs of running our Centre in Tralee, and towards the costs of our outreach service
for elderly clients with a hearing loss who have mobility & travel difficulties.
INTERNATIONAL DEAF NEWS
Every so often we like to bring you international news from the Deaf community.
Deaf Lawyers to be sworn in to US Supreme Court
In the USA on the 19th of April, thirteen Deaf and hard-of-hearing lawyers are set to be sworn in to the U.S. Supreme Court bar, in a first-ever large event
that symbolizes the strides Deaf & hard of hearing lawyers have made.
The High Court will provide interpreters and real-time captioning services to allow the lawyers to follow, visually and on their smartphones, what is
happening during the swearing-in ritual and in the oral arguments that will follow.
“This event signals to the U.S. Supreme Court, legal professionals and the public at large that Deaf and hard-of-hearing attorneys are capable of
succeeding at all levels of the legal profession,” said Anat Maytal, a Litigation Associate in New York and President of the Deaf & Hard of Hearing Bar Association.

International Week of the Deaf
Did you know International Week of the Deaf (IWD) is held each year in the last week of September? IWD is the initiative of the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) and was 1st launched back in 1958.
IWD strives to promote the rights of Deaf people and highlight specific human rights topics that merit attention. It is the only week in a year that sees
highly concerted global advocacy to raise awareness about the Deaf community at individual, community and governmental level. It is about
gathering together, becoming united, and showing that unity to the rest of the world.
