IRISH SIGN LANGUAGE CLASSES: SEPTEMBER 2011
An Irish Sign Language 1 (FETAC Level 3) course will be held in Killarney in
September 2011. The course is 8 weeks long, 3 hours per week. The cost is
200 euro plus an exam fee of 50 euro (total fee 250 euro). A minimum number
of 8 students is required to ensure that the course runs. If you would like
to join the class, please contact us here at KDRC and we will send you an
application form.

MID WEST DEAF ASSOCIATION VISIT TO KILLARNEY
Mid West Deaf Association is organizing a bicycle tour around Killarney on
Saturday 14th May. They hope to meet up with members of Kerry Deaf Resource
Centre for cycling and a social evening. You can bring your own bicycle or
rent one from a local shop. The meeting point for the bike tour is: David O’
Sullivan’s Bike Shop and Outdoor Store, Lower New Street, Killarney on
Saturday 14th May at 1:30pm. The location for the social evening will be

COUNCIL OF IRISH SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETERS ESTABLISHED
Sunday 8th May marks the date of the official formation of CISLI (Council of
Sign Language Interpreters), the new professional body representing ISL
interpreters. Congratulations to all the members, in particular to the
steering committee who spent several months discussing and drafting the
required documentation and who worked tirelessly to promote and arrange
meetings with interpreters. We wish CISLI and its new committee all the
best, and look forward to working with them in the future.

EQUALITY AMBASSADOR TRAINING
The Kerry Network of People with Disabilities has recently received funding
for an Equality Ambassador Training Course for People with Disabilities. The
objective of the course is to enable people with disabilities, their parents
and advocates to improve their dealings with public services, such as HSE,
Social Welfare, County Council and Gardai. The course will enable
participants to create awareness among state employees on how to treat
people with disabilities in their everyday jobs. This course has been
delivered in the past with great success. The duration of the course is 10
weeks, with one 3 hour session per week, and will commence in May/June 2011
(dates/times to be confirmed). The Network are particularly interested in
encouraging parents of people with disabilities to join the course.

CORK DEAF ASSOCIATION FASHION SHOW
CDA is hosting a Fashion Show on Friday 10th June 2011 7.30pm at Silver
Springs Moran Hotel, Tivoli, Cork. Eddie Redmond from RTE’s Hands On will be
MC on the night; the clothes will be modelled by professional models from
Focus Model Agency; and there will be other special guest appearances
including members of the Cork GAA football team and the SAM MAGUIRE CUP!
There will also be a raffle for spot prizes such as a signed Cork Gaelic
football and soccer jersey.

Tickets are for sale from CDA as follows: Family Ticket 25 euro, Adult 12
euro, Unwaged/OAP 10 euro, Children over 6 years 5 euro, Under 6’s free. For

WFD CONGRESS FUNDRAISER
The IDS, IDYA and Greenbow will be attending the WFD Congress in South
Africa in July. Delegates from all three organisations, along with other
Deaf people, will travel to Durban to represent the Irish Deaf community.

The IDS, IDYA, and Greenbow have come together to organise a fundraiser to
help cover the costs of the trip and are looking for your support. A night
of fun and games is guaranteed at the Woolshed Pub in Parnell Street on 21st
May at 8pm for loads of fun and games. Admission only €5.00
