We are absolutely delighted to be hosting the 2017 Deaf Games in Lisburn on the 1st of April this year and truly believe that it will be a fantastic day out for everyone. The tournament offers an unique opportunity for people (deaf/deafened/hard-of-hearing/hearing) to socialise and form life-long friendships – through our shared identities as a linguistic and cultural group.
Our committee have been working extremely hard behind the scenes to make sure that everything is in place. As well hosting five different sporting events, we have reserved the lawn pavilion which will serve as Deaf ‘Hub’ / info centre where people can socialise, check on scores and form new friendships. As previously posted, there are also some fantastic amenities beside the Leisureplex including a cinema complex, ten-pin bowling and a number of decent restaurants so there is something for everyone on the day.
We are pleased to confirm the following schedules and enclose the relevant fixture lists and names of all of the competitors:
1. Men’s 5aside soccer
2. Ladies’ futsal
3. Mixed badminton
4. Ladies’ basketball
5. Lawn bowling
We are expecting over 100 people to attend including parents of young deaf children, deaf mainstreamers, interested signers as well as the athletes so you can be sure of a great day out. This tournament represents a wonderful opportunity for everyone to enjoy a weekend free of barriers but enriched with the values, beliefs and customs inherent in Deaf Culture. We look forward to celebrating and cherishing our traditions and customs with you all.
Yours in sport
